how you can help

As the 2009 primary elections get underway, New Yorkers for Instant Runoff Voting hopes to play as active a role as possible.  There are a number of ways you can help.  For more information or to get more involved, please e-mail info@nycirv.com .

Once we’ve endorsed pro-IRV candidates, we’ll do all we can to help their campaigns.  This will include providing volunteer support, especially over the summer when many candidates must collect signatures to appear on the ballot.

We are currently in the process of establishing a Political Action Committee.  Once this is done, we can accept donations, and use our funds to provide financial support to pro-IRV candidates.  Information on how to donate will be posted as soon as possible.

Let your city and state representatives know that you support instant runoff voting!

Go here to find out who represents you in the city council.  Other important contacts: Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.

Go here to find out who represents you in the state senate, and here to find out who represents you in the state assembly.  Also, contact Governor David Paterson.

The more people who know about and support IRV, the easier it will be to build an effective movement in New York.  Help get the word out about the benefits of IRV however you can!  Write about it in your blog, bring it up with your friends, and advocate it in any voting organization with which you’re involved (such as non-profits, student governments, etc.).

I live in Brooklyn and I’ve been in favor of IRV for many years. At times, I’ve been a dues paying member of Fair Vote, the national organization that I heartily support. I am looking forward to becoming more involved in this campaign.
